Danish Ambassador moderates panel at the 2013 World Peace Forum

On 27-28 June, the second World Peace Forum was held at Tsinghua University in Beijing.  The Danish Ambassador Friis Arne Petersen was a moderator of one of the 18 panels of the forum. The panel was themed “Non-Traditional Security Issues” and during the panel a range of significant non-traditional issues were discussed including terrorism, food security, drug trafficking and climate change.

The participants in the panel were George Yeo, former Singaporean Foreign Minister, Jorge Taiana, former Argentine Foreign Minister, and Li Junru, Vice-President of the Party School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

The Forum is China’s first and only high-level non-governmental international security forum. The first World Peace Forum was successfully held last year, where it got universal acclaim from all sectors of society. This year’s forum was themed “International Security in a Changing World: Innovation, Coordination, and Development.”

The 2013 World Peace Forum brought more than 150 guests to Beijing to discuss international security issues and outline approaches to stabilize international security in the coming year. High-level participants included the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, and the Vice President of China, Li Yuanchao.
