Danish product tanker company TORM has agreed to acquire six new MR2 tankers from a Chinese shipyard, with options for two additional vessels.
The ships are scheduled for delivery in 2029, while the two optional vessels could follow in 2030. The deal marks TORM’s first direct newbuilding order since 2020.
A newbuilding is another word for a new ship or newly built vessel.
The six vessels are reported to be 50,000-dwt product tankers and are linked to China’s Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard. The firm order is estimated at around $276 million, with the potential eight-vessel programme valued at about $368 million.
The order comes as TORM expands and renews its fleet. The Copenhagen-based company has also acquired six MR vessels through resale deals this year, with deliveries planned between 2027 and 2028.
TORM transports refined petroleum products worldwide and operates a fleet of product tankers across the MR, LR1 and LR2 segments.
