Local Lao says hostel owner was already detained Wednesday

Nana Backpacker Hoste owner detained

Local sources confirm that police apprehended the owner of Nana Backpacker Hostel on Wednesday amid growing concerns about alarming incidents linked to the establishment. However, other reports indicate that authorities officially took him into custody on Friday.

Lao authorities detained the hostel owner following the suspected poisoning of two Australian women who had stayed at Nana Hostel. The establishment has remained closed to the public for several days. While two individuals still occupy the premises, they have declined to answer any questions regarding the situation.

The situation becomes more troubling as reports suggest that the two Danish girls, aged 20 and 21, who tragically died in Laos last week, were also victims of methanol poisoning. This revelation raises significant concerns about alcohol safety in the region.

Yesterday, a delegation from Laos’ Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism arrived in Vang Vieng to further investigate. As authorities probe these incidents, local and international stakeholders eagerly await updates on the findings and their implications for tourist safety.
