Myanmar and two international media support institutes from Denmark and Sweden signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on media cooperation to extend the duration of existing agreement.

The signing ceremony took place on June 15 at the Chatrium Hotel in Yangon where the MoU was signed by Director General U Ye Naing from Myanmar’s Information and Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Information and Pernille Bo Kristensen, Programme Manager from International Media Support (IMS) based in Copenhagen, Denmark and Fojo Media Institute based in Kalmar, Sweden.

This agreement was inked to renew the existing agreement for another one year effective until March 2020. The implementation of extended MoU would be carried out to convene the media development conference, the ethnic media conference and discussion meeting of the four pillars — judiciary, executive, legislature and media.

The purpose of the MoU, first signed in 2013, was to create laws and policies in line with international standards to help the media personnel work professionally by providing accessibility of information to people based on social media to help them participate in public forum. Under the implementation processes, workshops and activities on media development were held to disseminate media and legal affairs to aiding ethnic language stations and for holding ethnic media conference.
