New Book Released for foreigners in Iceland

Kristín Guðmundsdóttir has published her latest book, Leitin að orðum / Search for Words, designed for people of foreign origin in Iceland who have a basic knowledge of Icelandic or are in the advanced stages of Icelandic learning (levels 3 and 4).

This marks Kristín’s sixth book aimed at supporting Icelandic learners. Her previous titles include:

  • Nýir slóðir (2020)
  • Óvænt ferðalag (2021)
  • Leiðin að nýjum heimi (2022)
  • Birtir af degi (2023)
  • Tólf lyklar (2024)

Kristín was inspired to create these books after a friend who moved to Iceland in 1995 pointed out the lack of suitable reading material for foreign residents. Drawing on her background as an artist, she combines storytelling with hand-drawn illustrations to aid language comprehension.

Each book provides explanations for difficult words, idioms, and phrases, making learning more accessible. Leitin að orðum features 12 engaging short stories spanning various themes, making language learning both educational and entertaining.
