Hong Kong Vikings is the name of the new Scandinavian football team. The spirit of the team is to combine football with the opportunity to meet other expats and enjoy a beer. Sign up or join the launch party at Spicy Fingers, Wancai, on July 25.
Hong Kong Vikings is according to the group, the one and only Scandinavian team in Hong Kong. Thomas Walther is the PR manager.
“We hope the new team can create a social hub for Danes and other Scandinavians in Hong Kong. We have arranged training on Wednesday, and we are registered in a local league which starts in August and runs Saturday. We already have a group ready, but we are always looking for new players and cheerleaders,” Thomas says.
Besides training and gathering around social events, the annual highlight is the Viking Cup, which has been held every Easter for the past 26 years, different locations in Asia. Next year the Viking Cup is to be held in Hong Kong.
“We expect to be ready to take some medals. We have already started arranging it a bit and we hope that the sponsors will find interest in supporting 300+ expats. Besides having ambitions for the tournament, our hope is that we can transfer some of the atmosphere from the Viking Cup and our friendship clubs and establish a strong team,” he says.
