Nordic walking to be introduced in Malaysia

Come and listen and learn where to get the poles, and how to start walking the Nordic Way at The Star Health Fair 2013, organised by the Malaysian press The Star, from April 12 to 14.

The country’s only qualified Nordic Walking instructor, Jagjeet Singh, through a practical hands-on presentation and demonstration, will walk you through the various steps towards the correct technique of walking – Nordic Walking.

A trainer, motivation consultant, life coach and counsellor Singh is also a mountain trekker who has trekked the Everest Base Camp route in the Himalayan range several times and has climbed Gunung Kinabalu.

Nordic Walking is all the rage in the United States, Europe and China, and there are currently millions of people of all ages engaged in Nordic Walking. More and more health clubs, spas and resorts in the US have added Nordic Walking to their class offerings.

Nordic Walking offers a slew of benefits. Research shows that by adding two poles and the Nordic Walking technique to your stroll, you can improve your overall health in many different ways: burn up 46% more calories, build upper body and core strength, reduce stress on the joints and etc.

Most people can pick up the basics from a qualified coach as nothing beats a hands-on lesson from a real-life instructor. Lace up those sneakers, grab those poles, and soon, you’ll wonder how you ever walked without them.

This year’s theme, Let’s Live Great!, is to inspire Malaysians to lead a healthy life by being physically and mentally fit. The Star Health Fair 2013 is organised by The Star with Great Eastern Life as the event partner. It will be held in Halls 1 to 3 of the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre from April 12 to 14. It is open from 10am to 7pm and admission is free. For enquiries or to participate, call 03-79671388 (ext 1243/1529) or visitwww.facebook.com/thestarhealthfair
