Hua Hin is home to a very active Norwegian Motorcycle “Gang” who call themselves “Kubik Gjengen”. The group is far from a hard core gang but more like a touring group of about 40 Norwegians.
ScandAsia met Kubik Gjengen at a pit stop coming back from the Pala-U waterfall. When asked if they have a leader, Willy M. Richardsen volunteered to be their spokesperson.
“Some of us live here all year round as pensioners, some of us migrate here in October and stay here during the winter months,” Willy explains.
“We start the season with a party on the Hua Hin beach. From there on we go on tours every week to interesting places around the area.”
The trip to Pala-U waterfall was one such trip. The waterfall is located in the mountains 60 km west of Hua Hin as part of the Kaeng Krachan National Park. Thailand is quite narrow at this point and beyond the mountains lies Myanmar, only 10 – 15 km away. Every day, airborne border police fly their helicopters over the national forest to check for illegal immigrants.
Kubik Gjengen makes quite a sight when they swarm down the mountain roads in their yellow tshirts with the words ‘kaengkubik’ in Thai on their backs. If you want to join, you may contact Willy M. Richardsen by email to [email protected]
