Norwegian Maritime Day in Hong Kong 22 June 2016

Seminar on emission controls from ships and Seafood Reception on board 100 year old Tall Ship Sørlandet

Norway Maritime Day will be marked in Hong Kong on 22 June. A half day seminar on issues related to Green Shipping will be held at the Hong Kong Maritime Museum, followed by a reception on board the spectacular Tall Ship Sørlandet, which will be berthed adjacent to the museum.

The Norway Maritime Day 2016 is organized by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Beijing, in collaboration with the Norwegian Consulate in Hong Kong, the Norwegian Consulate general in Guangzhou, Hong Kong Shipowners Association, Hong Kong Maritime Museum, Civic Exchange, Innovation Norway, and the Norwegian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong

“In the setting of the Hong Kong Maritime Museum and the beautiful Tall Ship Sørlandet this year’s Norway Maritime Day will be an unforgettable occasion,” says Ambassador Svein Sæther.

The seminar will focus on possible technologies for reduction of air emissions from the shipping industry in conjunction with the forthcoming Emission Control Area in Hong Kong and mainland China. Speakers will include Ambassador Svein Sæther, Under-secretary Christine Loh from the Environmental Protection Department and the Norwegian Director General of Shipping and Navigation, Mr. Olav Akselsen. In addition the seminar will be addressed by experts and suppliers of relevant solutions and technologies.

The forthcoming Emission Control Regime poses a number of challenges for the shipping industry and the controlling authorities alike. From surveillance to enforcement, the participating Norwegian companies, (DNV GL, Kongsberg Maritime, Ulmatec, Clean Marine Systems, Shell/Gasnor) hope to offer some possible solutions to these challenges. The Norwegian Maritime Day will be concluded with a spectacular Norwegian Seafood buffet and reception on board the zero-emission Tall Ship Sørlandet which will arrived on 21 June and be moored at alongside Hong Kong Maritime Museum. The reception will be hosted by H.E. Ambassador Sæther.
