18 tonnes of Norwegian salmon transported by a cargo plane from Luxembourg, Boeing 747, arrived at Wuhan Tianhe International Airport on June 25, 2019.

According to Xinhua, this was the first time that Norwegian salmon was sent to Wuhan, capital of central China’s Hubei Province through a cargo aircraft. Before that, there was only a small portion of salmon delivered to Wuhan by international passenger flights .

Usually, most of the fresh food from abroad would be brought in the country via the ports in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou before being transported to Wuhan by cold chain logistics.

But, with transporting salmon through cargo flights instead of passenger flights, the transportation cost can be reduced by 30 percent, Yang Anming, manager of Wuhan Yihaida International Trade Co. Ltd told Xinhua.

The cargo flights will transport Norwegian salmon to Wuhan within 72 hours and will be operated three times a week in the future, Yang added.
