Sweden’s leading medical university Karolinska Institutet is going to offer online MOOCs (massive open online courses) to students worldwide, regardless of background or qualifications, said the university in a statement on Monday.
The move is intended to meet the global demand for high quality university education, said Jan-Olov Hoog, Dean of Higher Education at the university.
The new online courses are possible now through collaboration with the international non-profit education group edX.
Currently, the collaboration had expanded to include 31 universities around the world and the edX platform had more than 900,000 registered users.
Karolinska Institutet worked alongside a group of highly ranked universities such as Berkeley, Toronto University and McGill University.
