“Semla Day” at the Swedish Embassy

The Semla Day is celebrated in Sweden today, March 4.

Today almost all Swedes are eating cardamon buns (semla) filled with thick almond paste and whipped cream to celebrate the Semla Day (fettisdagen). The Embassy of Sweden in Bangkok is no exception. The tradition goes back to 1541 and is celebrated at the last Tuesday before the 40-day period of fasting that precedes Easter in the Christian calendar.
