
A 68-year-old Swedish man died after collapsing on the shoreline at Kata Beach in Phuket on Tuesday afternoon, August 20.
According to lifeguard Ledet Sandod, who was on duty at the time, the tourist was coming out of the water shortly after noon when he suddenly collapsed face down as he reached knee depth. Sandod and a beachgoer rushed to his aid and called for an ambulance.
The man was transported to Chalong Hospital, but doctors confirmed he had already passed away before arrival.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Surasak Sudmuang of Karon Police said there were no signs of assault on his body.
The Swedish national had been staying at a nearby resort with friends since August 15 and was scheduled to leave Thailand on Sunday, August 24. He was travelling with two companions, though they were staying in separate rooms.
Police have ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The man’s identity has not been released pending notification of relatives.
