Vietnamese mobility company Green SM has launched a fully electric taxi service in Copenhagen, making Denmark the company’s first European market and marking the first export of Vietnam’s integrated electric mobility model to Europe.
Since launching in Vietnam in 2023, Green SM has expanded rapidly across Asia and now operates in Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, the Philippines, India and Kazakhstan. Copenhagen becomes its seventh market and the first outside Asia.
Rather than simply exporting electric vehicles, Green SM is introducing an entire mobility concept developed in Vietnam. The company combines a fleet of VinFast electric vehicles, its own booking platform, directly employed drivers and company-operated services into a single business model.
The Copenhagen fleet consists primarily of VinFast VF 6 and VF 8 electric SUVs, which can be booked through the Green SM mobile app.
Green SM says Denmark was selected as its European launch market because of the country’s strong commitment to sustainability and green transport. The launch ceremony was attended by representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy in Denmark as well as Danish business and labour organisations.
Unlike many ride-hailing platforms, Green SM owns its vehicles and employs its drivers directly rather than relying on independent contractors.
According to The Copenhagen Post, the company believes Danish values of sustainability, quality and customer service closely match its own operating philosophy. Drivers are employed under a collective agreement, receive a monthly salary of DKK 29,000 plus performance bonuses, and work shifts of no more than eight hours. Expansion to other Danish cities will depend on the reception the company receives in Copenhagen.
Green SM is backed by Vietnam’s Vingroup and operates exclusively with VinFast electric vehicles. The company has positioned itself as a provider of premium, zero-emission transport services, combining electric mobility with digital booking technology and professional driver training.
The move represents a new phase in Vietnam’s international business expansion. While VinFast has already entered several overseas markets with electric cars, Green SM is exporting a complete mobility ecosystem developed and refined in Asia before introducing it to Europe.
For Denmark, the arrival of Green SM adds a new competitor to one of Europe’s most mature taxi markets, where high labour standards, environmental ambitions and strict regulation present both opportunities and challenges for new entrants.
The Copenhagen launch will therefore be closely watched as an early test of whether a Vietnamese mobility model can compete successfully in the European market.
