Philippine Norway Business Council Welcomed its New Chairman

Philippine Norway Business Council (PNBC) recently welcomed its new Chairman and President, Captain Ivar Thomasli.

Currently working as the Managing Director of Thome Ship Management Pte’s regional headquarter in Manila and Chairman of SMSGlobal Ltd., Mr. Ivar is a capable person who is known for his propensity to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with his colleagues in defense of a principle or in pursuit of an objective. He’s well respected as he always sticks to what he says.

After a graduation from Trondheim Maritime Academy, Mr. Ivar started his career in the Norwegian Merchant Fleet in 1972 as 3rd Officer. Later on, he joined the Norwegian Navy for Officer Training at the Naval Academy where he graduated in 1976. After many years of serving the Norwegin Navy, he was appointed as Captain on the first Namibian coastguard vessel and later became an Adviser for the Namibian Ministry of Fisheries. He left the Navy in 1996 to start a job as Director for the Research Vessel Department of Norway’s Institute of Marine Research in Bergen. He decided to move to Philippines in January 2000 to become the Managing Director of the Norwegian Training Center in Manila (NTC-M).

In 2002 he co-founded SMSGlobal Ltd, a company which has grown to become the world’s leading crew communication services provider which pioneered in Maritime market. Offered by Inmarsat, the company provides the first universal SMS text messaging and crew E-mail service for seafarers.

In 2004 he joined Thome Ship Management Pte Ltd as Senior Vice President.

Appointed as the Chairman of PNBC on May 4 this year, PNBC is confident that Mr. Ivar’s dedication and leadership will help the council achieve its heights.
