Danish National Day Celebrated in Shanghai

Today, 5 June 2012 marks the National Day of Denmark. This time, the celebration with the Danish community was held halfway around the world from Denmark at the Danish Consulate General in Shanghai earlier this morning.

The event also meant to strengthen relations between Denmark and China. Therefore, ‘Denmark as an innovative country’ was chosen as this year’s theme for the celebration.

Barbara de Scheel Agersnap, Head of Innovation Centre Denmark in Shanghai mentioned in her welcoming speech, the strong Sino-Danish co-operation on innovation.

“Denmark was one of the first countries in the world to formulate an innovation policy and we are always on the lookout for future innovative partnerships. As one of the world’s hot spots for innovative thinking, Shanghai is the obvious location for the Danish Innovation Centre,” she said.

Science Consul at the Danish Innovation Centre, Mr. Lars Christensen, spoke about the long Danish tradition for innovation, despite the fact that Denmark is a small country.

During the event, visitors were treated to screening of movies and eye-catching pictures of Denmark and the Danish lifestyle, including the photo exhibition ‘Monumental Motion – A Cycling Life in the Capital of Denmark’.

The Danish Constitution Day was sponsored by four Danish companies: AVK, Coloplast, Danfoss and Leo Pharma.
