EURO2012 Opening Evening at the Royal Danish Embassy Bangkok

Over 120 Danish and Thai football fans screamed and cheered as the Danish team scored 1-0 in the European Championship 2012 football match between Denmark vs. Netherlands on Saturday night 9 June.

The large group was gathered on the terrace of the Ambassador’s residence, where the game was shown on a 4 x 4 meter Full Color LED Display sponsored by Up Rising Co., Ltd.

“..only slightly smaller than the one I have in my bed room,” joked Ambassador Mikael Hemniti Winther.

The party could have been much larger, as the maximum number of guests were reached on the second day after the announcement. Many of the Danes, who signed up too late, watched instead the game at the two Danish restaurants in Bangkok, Stable Lodge and Admiral’s Pub & Restaurant.

Mads Beyer, Deputy Head at the Embassy, explained the concept of the evening after the welcome speech by the Ambassador. Carlsberg served beer at retail prices, Stable Lodge served delicious Danish wiener sausage hotdogs with all the trimmings and when the match was over no later than 2 o’clock, everybody was expected to leave the Embassy peacefully and quietly.

After the match, Carlsberg and Stable Lodge had also put up generous prizes for most creatively dressed up lady and gentleman and for the people who had guessed the incredible outcome of the match 1 – 0 to Denmark!
