A Spiritual Musical Experience

Swedish – Lebanese singer Maher Zain has a huge following among music fans in Malaysia who like his unique brand of music that blends pop-folk tunes with spiritual lyrics about Islam, love and togetherness.

He has already held several successful shows in Malaysia, and expectations were high for his much-anticipated ‘Forgive Me’ Live in KL concert at Stadium Merdeka on 17 June.

Fans had assembled outside the stadium early, despite the sweltering heat. It was also the first day of the seasonal haze, which did not bode well for this open-air event.

All worries disappeared once Maher took to the stage. Dressed in his trademark jacket and cap, the talented singer took command of the show, singing his songs in a three-hour-long performance, accompanied by a full ensemble of musicians.

He sang songs in several languages, including a Malay track. However, he also surprised his fans by singing ‘secular’ songs, like Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror, and showed off his extensive musical talents by playing the piano and the drums.

The event was presented by Canon and organised by Marctensia Concerts and Awakening Records.
