Danish Donation for Elephant Projects in Thailand

Denmark and Thailand celebrated the 50 year anniversary for Thai elephants in Danish Zoos in May 2012 with a ceremony in Copenhagen Zoo. Members of the Danish Royal Family and Thai vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Jullapong Nonsrichai participated in the anniversary ceremony.

At the celebration, the Copenhagen Zoo donated 500, 000 baht to homeless elephants in Thailand. This donation was made in appreciation of the gracious gift of two elephants his Majesty King Bhumipol of Thailand and her Majesty Queen Sirikit gave to the Danish King Frederik and Queen Ingrid in 1969.

On 6 July 2012, Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs Surapong Tovichakchaikul passed the donation from the Copenhagen Zoo to The Elephant Return Home and Zoological Park Organisation. The Foreign Minister said that the money will be used for the homeless elephants in Thailand.
