From 15 August 2012, the Embassy of Sweden in Beijing will employ a visa application centre for handling applications for Schengen visas. The aim is to provide better service and shorten the handling time for visa applications. This means that applicants, instead of applying at the Embassy, will lodge their applications at the visa application centre, which is operated by VFS Global.
The Embassy will only accept Schengen visa applications from applicants that have pre-booked an appointment by calling the Visa Sections telephone: 010-6532-9791. There are a limited number of slots for each week.
The outsourcing is made mainly to offer applicants better service and a more convenient application procedure. The visa application centre will have considerably longer hours of service and applications will be handled quicker and more efficiently. What is outsourced is only the application procedure and the Embassy still decides in all applications. The visa application centre is located conveniently close to the Embassy in an area that has excellent public communications. For these improved services there will be an additional service fee of RMB 220 for each application.
