Ella Bella Bingo moves to Singapore

Norwegian preschool cartoon “Ella Bella Bingo” has been acquired by the new distribution arm of Singaporean kids’ firm August Media.

Ella Bella Bingo follows “the charismatic, creative Ella and the playful kids and eccentric adults in her life.” It is billed as “a warm, humorous, high-energy mix of fun and laughter.”

August Rights has acquired global rights to both seasons of Ella Bella Bingo, which Oslo-based transmedia firm Kool Productions produces for Norwegian public broadcaster NRK. Kool retains the Scandinavian rights.

August-owned UK production company Red Kite Animation will coproduce the show’s second season, which is due to be delivered in winter next year. Red Kite will oversee development and production in Edinburgh and Singapore, starting next month. August Media CEO Jyotirmoy Saha, Red Kite’s Ken Anderson and Kool’s Frank Mosvold executive produce.

“During Mipcom last year, I attended the Finance in the Far East lecture and Jyotirmoy Saha was one of the speakers. I was intrigued by the possibilities of international coproductions,” said Mosvold.

The news comes after C21 revealed August had launched a rights arm in time for Mipcom next month. August has been looking to move into distribution for some time, with Saha recently saying the firm remains in “advanced-stage talks” to buy a sales company to “augment” August Rights.
