Eriksson’s contract with BEC Tero expires today

Sven-Goran Eriksson, current BEC Tero Sasana football club’s technical director, is being linked with a shock return to English football – at League One basement club Hartlepool, according to The Sun. His short-term deal with the Thai football club expires today.

He only signed a short term contract with BEC Tero and remains open to offers.  Swedish sources close to the ex-England boss told The Sun that Eriksson, 64, is interested in taking over at Victoria Park after Neale Cooper quit last week.  “We’ll see what happens,” Eriksson said.

Hartlepool have yet to conduct interviews but would pay no more than £100,000 a year for Eriksson who was sacked by Leicester City just over a year ago.

Reserve team coach Micky Barron is in temporary charge of the club with ex-Hull boss Phil Brown one of the frontrunners.

BEC Tero manager Thanya Wongnak told the Bangkok Post that several clubs in England are interested in Eriksson.

“We are in talks with him. He has made our team better but we’ll see if we are able to pay his high salary,” he said. “We can’t compete with foreign clubs in financial terms.”
