Scania signs big truck contract in Indonesia

Scania, the Swedish bus and truck manufacturer, has received a big order on 120 heavy Scania trucks from the Indonesian mining company Gunung Bayan.
     The first 70 vehicles will be delivered this year and the remaining 50 during 2006. It is Scania´s recently appointed distributor in Indonesia, United Tractors, which negotiated the substantial deal.
     The contract includes service and maintenance of the purchased vehicles, that all are 48 ton trucks equipped with 12 liter 420 hp engines.
     Gunung Bayan does with this order change a Japanese fleet, with trucks that carry 20 ton loads, to Swedish vehicles that load 30 ton. The new Scania trucks will work long shifts and run an average 700 kilometers a day.
