Kleemann’s Car May Base In M’sia Next Year

Denmark-based personalised car maker, Kleemann A/S, plans to assemble its cars in Malaysia for both the domestic and export markets next year.
“We will start with Malaysia and as we grow, we will export to other countries,” says Soren M. Jess
“For a start, through our partnership with local-based Kleemann Motorsport Sdn Bhd, we are going to export four models, namely CLK Coupe, E Class, CLS and S Class for the local market,” he told reporters after the official launch of Kleemann’s model in Malaysia by Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister, Datuk Mohd Shafie Apdal.
Jess said that through this strategy, the company will gain an advantage to study the situation of the market in the Asean region (in terms of demand and tax systems) before starting the assembly plant.
Kleemann specialises in the design and manufacture of exclusive tuning and styling solutions for Mercedes Benz automobiles.
Kleemann Motorsport is the first dealer of Kleemann’s car in the Asean region.
Explaining further, Jess said that Malaysia has the necessary infrastructure and support system to serve as a viable automotive production hub in the Asean region, serving not only the Asean market but also those outside the region.
“That is why we are showing keen interest to locate production facilities in Malaysia for our cars, as the country has the competitive advantage compared to others,” he added.
In doing so, Jess said that the company would be able to penetrate Indonesia, Thailand and India’s markets, respectively.
On the local front, Kleemann Motorsport’s chief executive officer, Rosli Said, said that based on the limited edition factor, the company hoped to register sales of 30 to 40 units in the first month of introduction.
“For the first year, we expect the company to chalk up sales of RM200 million,” he said.
It is understood that the four models of Kleemann’s car would be priced from RM500,000.
