Danish Plan for Restoration of Thai Beaches

Poul Jakobsen, General Manager of the Skagen Innovation Center, has presented a plan to Phuket Governor Udomsak Uswarangkura for the restoration of the tsunami affected beaches of Southern Thailand. The restoration plan covers Patong up to Khao Lak, an area that has suffered severe erosion.
Mr. Jakobsen said his environmental expert company proposes a cost-effective system which improve drain and widen damaged beaches esthetocally.
“A normal firm would charge 3.3 million euros (165 million baht) to clean up 1.5 km of beach. We would like to offer 15km for the same price, with a yearly monitoring plan and evaluation report,” Mr. Jakobsen told the governor according to Phuket Gazette.
The Governor is reported to be interested in the project but on a somewhat smaller scale due to financial constraints. He is expected to make a decision after consulting Thai academics on the subject.
