Norwegian Christmas gatherings in Vietnam

The Norwegian community in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in early December met to celebrate the coming Christmas together with visiting Norwegian Minister, Mrs. Gro Haaversen Barth from the Scandinavian Church in Bangkok.
In Ho Chi Minh City, eleven grown ups and twelve children gathered on Tuesday 3 December at the residence of Mr. Arild Fehn of the Norwegian Missionary Alliance. Among the participants were also the Consul General of Norway, Mr. Arild Haugan of Hydro Agri.
In Hanoi, Mrs. Haaversen Barth was invited to stay with the Norwegian Ambassador to Vietnam, H.E. Mr. Per G. Stavnum. Here, thirteen Norwegians gathered both on Friday 6 at Hotel Metropole where the Norwegians usually meet once a month and again on Sunday in the residence of the Ambassador, where five children were also present.
“We didn’t have a sermon as such,” Mrs. Haaversen Barth says.
“It was more like a gathering where we met and talked and wished each other a Merry Christmas. In Hanoi, I also had separate meetings with a few Norwegians, whom I would like to have a private talk with.”
The Norwegians in Vietnam are visited twice a year by the Norwegian minister. In May, Mrs. Haaversen Barth visited the communities for the first time since her appointment to Thailand. Her next visit is currently scheduled to around April 2003.
