Swedish construction giant Skanska interested in USD 544 Million Thai potash project

Khun Pichet Sathirachawal, Deputy Minister of Industry, on Thursday 26 September told the Thai daily Matichon that on Friday 27th September a board meeting will be held at Potash Asean Co Ltd, an Asean project to let Thailand operate a potash mine that will produce some 1.1 million tonnes annually of potash fertilizer.
In order to solve the USD 544 Million financing of the mining facility, Thailand has invited foreign companies that can provide project financing to co-invest in the venture. Six corporations have sent in proposals, among them Swedish construction giant Skanska. The others are Basic International Development Corporation from the USA, Bateman Engineering Limited of Israel, Ferrostaal from Germany, Marubeni Energy&Chemical Project Corporation of Japan and the Thai-Chinese group T.S.B.Trading. Potash is essential to agriculture development as it is one of the basic nutrients for plants.
