The Viet Nam-Sweden Friendship Association made their debut in the city on 8 November 2005. The event was co-hosted by the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations (HUFO) and The Swedish General Consulate in the in Ho Chi Minh.
Nguyen Ngoc Hoa, General Director of the Sai Gon Trade Cooperative Union (Sai Gon Coop) is the first chairman of the association.
Swedish Ambassador to Vietnam Anna Lindstedt and representatives from the city’s agencies were also attending the ceremony.
Ho Thi Minh Nguyet, chairperson of HUFO, said that the association will mark a new step of development in bilateral relations.
The HUFO also gave awards to eight best writers of a contest under the theme “Exploring the land and people of Sweden”.
