More than 100 participants from 20 ASEM member countries, European Commission, international organizations and media agencies attend the seminar aiming to realize ASEM state leaders’ commitment ad raise effectiveness of HIV/AIDS prevention work in Asia and Europe.
The participants of the seminar emphasized the need to increase the role of ASEM member countries in the fight against the pandemic. Each member country is required to work out a national action plan/strategy, to have a national coordinating agency and set up a national surveillance and appraisal system.
Furthermore the seminar will make a proposal for ASEM cooperation activities in HIV/AIDS control for submission to the sixth ASEM summit scheduled to take place in Finland next year.
