Thailand Awarded Best Tourist Destination

Thailand received The Best Tourist Destination Award at the Danish Travel Awards 2005 held in Denmark on 13 October 2005.
Mr. Chaisiri Anamarn, Ambassador of Royal Thai Embassy in Copenhagen, was invited by Stand By Magazine to assume the award on behalf of Thailand at the event.
The Danish Travel Awards is an event organized by a well-known Danish travel magazine Stand By, where the first award was held in 1986.
There are 15 award categories, namely Best Travel Company, Best Airline, Best Hotel, Best Tourist Destination, etc. And this year’s nominees for The Best Tourist Destination are Thailand, Scotland and Greece with 6,306 votes, 6,059 votes and 6,052 votes respectively.
This award is regarded as a great honor for Thailand as the country needs to bolster its tourism during this year’s high season after a serious damage from the tsunami in December 2004.
Thai Airways International Public Company Limited was also chosen for second place under the category “Best Intercontinental Airline” during the same ceremony.
Lufthansa won “Best Intercontinental Airline”, Scandinavian Airlines in third and Singapore Airlines in fourth place.
