The new ambassador appointment comes hard on the heels of news that current ambassador Ulrik Helweg-Larsen is about to end his term in Bangkok. Ulrik Helweg-Larsen will move to become ambassador to Romania, and he is to be replaced by Michael Sternberg.
Sternberg, 60, moves from the ambassador position in New Delhi, India where he has resided for the last five years. He came to India from a position in Indonesia in 2001, so the new ambassador to Thailand is not completely new to South East Asia.
Sternberg’s ambassador post in India is to be filled by Lønsmann Poulsen, 60, who moves there from Stockholm.
