Sweden Helps The Earthquake Victims

Sweden, through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) has released its first contributions in response to the Indonesian Earthquake which struck on May 29 in and around the surroundings of Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
The 7 MSEK (about 1 MUSD) support is channeled by giving SEK 5 million to Swedish Red Cross/International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies for humanitarian assistance. The support aims to distribute food, water, shelter and baby kits to the victims. And another SEK 2 million will be delivered to Swedish Rescue Services Agency (SRSA), which will provide the logistical support to the UN On-Site Operations Coordination Centre (OSOCC) during its first month of operation. In addition, support is given to a telecommunications team which will facilitate overall coordination and assessment efforts.
