Swedish Royalty’s Private Stay in Phuket

King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden are paying a private visit in Phuket, the resort island on the southern coast of Thailand. The Swedish royalty arrived in Phuket after joining the celebrations for HM King Bhumipol Adulyadej in Bangkok.
They were greeted by Phuket Governor Udomsak Uswarangkura and high ranking officials under strict press access before leaving for the accommodation at Trisara Hotel.
Their Majesties the King and Queen of Sweden’s last visit to the Andaman region was in February last year. They came to thank Thailand for its assistance to the Swedish people affected by the tsunami disaster.
Thailand and Sweden have closely cooperated in rehabilitation efforts following the tsunami disaster. For instance, the King of Sweden offered his funds for boat building to affected fishermen and for the rehabilitation of coastal resources.
