The New Seamen’s Priest Says Hallo

In September Lars Haugan is to replace Hilde Sirnes, who has come to the end of her three year term at the church in Pattaya. She moves on to take up the job as seamen’s priest in New Orleans.
Lars Haugan will move to Pattaya from Karasjok in Norway, where he works as priest and his wife Marie Kemi, 52, works as a teacher.
“We both look forward to move to Pattaya and get to know the people there. We also look forward to have a good corporation with every one; employees and volunteers at the church; all those who visit the church often and those, who just stops by every now and then,” Lars Haugan writes in a newsletter from the church.
The new priest it not unfamiliar with the chores of a seamen’s priest, as he has worked for four months in Alicante, Spain, but Lars reckons he still has a lot to learn.
And the learning is something Lars and his wife are looking forward to.
“We haven’t been in Thailand before, but we know a lot of people, who have stayed there for holidays; and they all find it is a fantastic country in all categories, such as nature, climate, temperature and especially the people there,” he writes.
