The Vietnam Ship Building Industry Corporation (Vinashin) is building three passenger ferry boats as part of the Danish non-refundable aid programme to improve waterway traffic in the Mekong River Delta, reports Viet Nam News.
The ferries weigh from 100-200 tons, and are capable of transporting 350 passengers and 20 automobiles, with construction costs for the fleet of three estimated at VND20 billion (US$1.25 million). The three new ferries are to be put into operation next October.
