The Viking Wheelers, the DTCC’s cycling team, has now commenced preparations for its annual December Tour. Six riders participated in the weekend in Hua Hin July 22/23 and on Saturday cycled 68 km in the scenic Pranburi area south of Hua Hin.
The survey trip and plans for the Viking Wheeler Tour 2006 along the Khong River from December 2 to 8 have been completed. You are invited to visit the team’s web-site www.hhmcycling.dk for all details about this Tour.
The team will drive up to Loei on Saturday December 2. From Sunday December 3 to Thursday December 7 it will cycle from Loei, via Chiang Khan, Sangkhom, Nong Khai and back south towards Udon, a total ride of about 350 km. Wednesday December 6 will be a day of rest with sightseeing in the Nong Khai area, and a possibility to cross the Friendship Bridge for a visit to Vientianne. Return to Bangkok by car from Udon on Friday December 8.
There are a few hills on the ride the first day from Loei to Chiang Khan and also on the last day going south towards Udon. Apart from that the road runs along the Khong River and is consequently fairly flat. But the entire road is very scenic and hotels/resorts of a good standard.
As usual participants share actual costs of the Tour proportionately. The budgeted cost is Baht 12,000 per person in single rooms and Baht 10,000 per person in double-rooms. These costs include all transportation, support vehicles, board and lodging costs during the ride, excluding costs related to sightseeing on December 6. Riders who want to cross the Friendship Bridge must have Thai exit/re-entry visa and can get visa to Laos at the border at a cost of US$ 30.
