Indonesian-born World Champ to Join Danish Club

The world champion in the men’s doubles category – Tony Gunawan – will soon join the Danish badminton club Team Vestsjaelland, reports Danish media. Gunawan, who is Indonesian by birth yet now officially holds an American citizenship, will thus become one of the leading profiles in the Danish badminton league.
According to Team Vestsjaelland, the club has agreed on a deal with Tony Gunawan, which will be signed shortly once a few formalities have been taken care of. Tony Gunawan is the reigning world champion along with his countryman Howard Bach. In 2001, he won the world championship title with his former countryman Halim Haryanto, and the year before this Gunawan took home an Olympic gold medal with Chandra Wijaya. With the purchase of Gunawan, Team Vestsjaelland is now among the undisputed favorites to win the next Danish championship for teams.
