Record Sales for Nokia Thailand This Year

The Finnish handset giant has refused to release specific figures, but it did raise its forecast for overall local handset sales this year to 8,8 million units from 8,4 million, fuelled largely by price wars among operators, with rates as low as one baht per call.
”We have already raised our mobile-phone sales projection this year, thanks to strong sales in the first-time-user product segment in upcountry provinces,” the managing director of Nokia Thailand, Bob McDougall, told the Bangkok Post on Wednesday.
He added that the first-time-user category has been the best performer for Nokia Thailand this year, ac-counting for 55-60 pct of total sales in the replacement market, which currently accounts for more than half of Thailand’s mobile handset sales.
