Swedish Road Safety Introduced to Malaysia

The embassy of Sweden in Malaysia, in corporation with the Malaysian Ministry of Transport, hosted the “Sweden-Malaysia International Road Safety Seminar” on November 13 at the Palace of the Golden Horses in Kuala Lumpur.
The one-day seminar was aimed to increase awareness of traffic safety in Malaysia and to share Sweden’s experience in promoting traffic safety measures.
The event drew approximately 150 participants both from Sweden and Malaysia. Speakers and panelists included experts from Swedish Road Administration, Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute, SweRoad and University Putra Malaysia.
During the busy seminar, the two countries shared the Swedish knowledge and experiences on road safety. The overall Swedish policy ‘Vision Zero’ – which was adopted by the Swedish parliament in 1997 – was also outlined. The basis of “Vision Zero” approach is that no one shall be killed or seriously injured as the result of an accident within the road transport system.
Furthermore, an exhibition about risks in traffic and road safety solutions which provided by the sponsors – Scania, Autoliv Hirotako, Volvo Car Malaysia and Volvo Malaysia – was also showcased.
