The request for help was made by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) at a meeting with a visiting delegation from the Swedish Trade Union Confederation (STUC), led by Vice President Leif Hakansson, in Hanoi last Monday.
The VGCL also asked its Swedish visitors to help organize seminars on Vietnam’s labor commitments to the World Trade Organization.
Mr. Leif Hakansson, who is also president of the secretariat of the Swedish Trade Union Development Cooperation Program, and his entourage are on an 11-day working visit to Vietnam, which was kicked off on January 9.
The Swedish delegation discussed VGCL’s general activities and the challenges the confederation faces following Vietnam’s entrance into the WTO. The visitors reportedly also wanted to learn more from VGCL about settling labor disputes and strikes.
