Laos, Finland enhance cooperation

Mrs Marjatta Rasi, Deputy Minister of Development and Cooperation of Republic of Finland granted more US$6 million to Lao Government during her working visit to Laos from 7 to 9 February. The grant is to strengthen the development planning of National Mekong River Committee of Lao. 
The overall purpose of the Deputy Minster’s visit was to discuss improvement of the policies on management and allocation of the forestry with participation of the local people and relevant policies.
The US$ 6 million grant was given by Marjatta Rasi to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Thongloun Sisoulith. The minister and her delegation also met Mr Sitaheng Lathsaphone, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry. During the talks, ways to expand the cooperation between Laos and Finland in the future, particularly in forestry sector, was discussed.
Both sides also reviewed the progress of co-operative forestry development projects, which are being implemented until 2008.
