Danida to Support Vietnamese Female Workers

After years of successful operation in Ho Chi Minh City, Ms Nguyen Thi Mai moved her production of dried fish to her native Nghe An and her company now provides livelihoods to a large number of poor families. With Danida assistance she will enter the export market.
400 mainly female workers from poor background earn their living from working in Ms. Mai’s fish production company Phuong Mai Company. The company is a major employer in Nghe a province where Ms. Mai specialises in the production of dried fish products for the domestic market.
She is currently planning to expand to new export markets in China and Korea. Ms. Mai and her company will be assisted by the Danida funded Fisheries Sector Programme to develop and implement a strategy to improve the quality, food safety and marketing of products.
The Danish assistance should pave the way for increased sales in domestic, and not least regional and international markets. It is anticipated that the company will be able to develop and market its own branded products, once the necessary quality assurance and food safety controls are in place.
The Danida funded Fisheries Sector Programme supports the Ministry of Fisheries and provincial fisheries department in promoting environmentally sustainable development of the fisheries sector.
