Denmark Helps Fight Against Human Trafficking in Vietnam

A new minor project supported by Denmark fights against human trafficking and protects the women and children’s rights in Vietnam has been implemented in the Lang Son, Thanh Hoa and Tay Ninh Provinces from May 2007 till December 2008.
The causes of trafficking are mainly due to poverty and limited educational level of people. Trafficking affects the mental and physical health of victims as well as their social situation and future life.
“Dealing with human trafficking requires multi-faced approach including increased awareness of the people on human rights, gender equality, human trafficking, etc. and provision of vocational training and counselling services” said Mrs. Vuong Thi Hanh, project coordinator.
One important component of the project is to strengthen the capacity of Vietnamese NGOs in dealing with human trafficking as well as to encourage information sharing among them in regards to experience, lessons learnt and successful models.
