Denmark Supports Female Farmers in Vietnam

The second phase of the Danish supported Agricultural and Rural Development Sector Programme Support aims to support and improve the women’s position in the agriculture as well as in the family.
Women will be the main priority in the second phase of the Danish supported Agricultural and Rural Development Sector Programme Support (ARD SPS). The Programme is made up of a central component and a provincial component. The central component will support the formulation of policies and strategies by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), made on the basis of separate data for men and women.
Separate training sessions on gender issues will be carried out to find out wonen’s needs. According to the prevailing work-division in the farmer families, the women will for instance be trained in methods of agricultural production, storing, processing etc., within the areas of small-scale fish farms and small livestock farms (especially pigs and poultry). Also models of small-scale horticulture will be included in the training, which will secure the households a balanced diet.
Engagement of female trainers, teachers and extension workers, has been given strong priority. In addition, the Woman’s Union will be involved when needed, as they have proven good results with reaching and mobilizing women down to village level.
