Millicom International Cellular S.A, a global telecommunications investor in the Swedish finance Stenbeck family group of companies, reports a 45 percent annual increase in Asian subscribers from June 2002 to June 2003. Its operators in Cambodia and Vietnam performed especially well.
Millicom’s total Asian subscriber base by 30 June 2003 was 2,328,731.
In the second quarter 2003 Millicom’s worldwide operations in Asia, Latin America and Africa added 223,121 net new cellular subscribers, resulting in an increase of over five percent from the total subscribers recorded at March 31 2003.
In Cambodia Millicom runs the operator Mobitel and in Vietnam Mobifone.
