Handelsbanken is the first Swedish bank to open a representative office in Malaysia. The new office was launched at a cocktail reception held at the Swedish Ambassador Helena Sångelands residence in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday September 18.
Björn Börjesson, Executive Vice President and Head of Handelsbanken International, flew in from Stockholm for the event. Handelsbanken has been present in neighbouring Singapore for 30 years and he finds it a natural step to establish an office in Malaysia.
“There are many Swedish and Nordic companies in Malaysia so it is important for Handelsbanken to be present here. But we also do business with local companies,” he says.
The Scandinavian community in Malaysia is another important group of customers for Handelsbanken who also will offer Private Banking.
Chief Representative for the new office is Abhinash Murukesvan.
