The Consulate General of Sweden in Phuket Will Be Closed Down

The Foreign Ministry of Sweden constantly evaluating it’s organizations according to demand and need of services and hence they are adjusted according to the budget and level of services needed. As a result, The Consulate General of Sweden in Phuket will be closed down on June 2008.
After the mishap of Tsunami in 2004, Sweden has decided that it is crucial to increase its representatives in Phuket.
The Ministry feels there is still need for further demand for services in Phuket but they are different from the ones provided when the The Consulate General of Sweden in Phuket initially opened.
Sweden will enhance its honorary consulate and strengthens the embassy in Bangkok. The closure of the Consulate General of Sweden in Phuket along with the closing down of other Swedish consulates aboard, Sweden will save 12 million kroner per year.
