3rd meeting of Justice Partnership Programme held in Hanoi

The Danish Ambassador, John Nielsen and Vietnam’s Vice Minister of Justice, Hoang The Lien opened the 3rd Partnership Committee meeting of the Justice Partnership Programme on Dec 20.

Representatives of the Central Judicial Reform Steering Committee, Ministry of Justice, Supreme People’s Court, Supreme People’s Procuracy, Vietnam Bar Federation, justice Initiative Facilitation Fund, EU delegation, Swedish Embassy and Danish Embassy met to review the implementation of JPP in 2012 and direct priorities in 2013.

Partnership Committee Meeting is a forum for dialogue between the donors, the development partners and the Central Judicial Reform Steering Committee. In the meeting, Mr. Trinh Xuan Toan, Standing member of the CJRSC shared priorities of judicial reform in Vietnam during 2013 – 2015. All participants had an interesting and productive discussion on implementation of JPP in 2012. JPP has contributed to the creation of a legal framework for judicial reform process (amended Law on Lawyers, revised Criminal Procedure Code), strengthening visibility of the VBF and enhancing access to legal aid for nearly 500,000 people, particularly those of vulnerable groups.

Specific priorities in 2013 were identified for implementing agencies with the overarching goal of further strengthening the state institutions, promoting the integrity, professionalization and protection of lawyers as well as supporting NGOs and other voices beyond the state institutions.
