Finnish Government Praised Vietnam for Wise Loan Usage






With funding from Finland and World Bank’s loans, the northern port city of Haiphong in Vietnam on January 4, 2008 put into use a US $41 million drainage and sanitation project, ‘Drainage Project 1B’, part of an overall drainage and sanitation programme for three Vietnamese cities of Da Nang, Ha Long and Haiphong.
The project recieves US $25.5 million from the World Bank’s loans and US $7 million from the Finnish Government’s non-refundable aid. The remaining capital came from the Vietnamese side.
Haiphong was praised by representatives from the Finnish Government and the World Bank as one of the localities that made the best use of the World Bank loans and non-refundable aid from Finland in improving its urban drainage and sanitation systems between 1996 and 2007.
