The Norwegian Peace Facilitator, Ambassador Hans Brattskar, visited former President Fidel Ramos during a recent visit to the Philippines. They met to discuss the history of the peace process between the government of the Philippines and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines. Achievements in the peace process during President Ramos’ time include the signing of the Hague Joint Declaration and the Comprehensive Agreement on the Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CARHRIHL). Former President Ramos also gave his analysis on the present political tension drawing parallels to his broad experience in the presidency.
Norway has facilitated the peace process between the government of the Philippines and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines since 2001. Ambassador Brattskar reiterated Norway’s commitment to the peace process.
